Some terrible flaw at the center of our being?

 Lacewing Butterfly

Many of us grow up believing there is
some terrible flaw at the center of our being,
a defect we must hide.

Feeling unlovable and condemned to loneliness
if our true selves become known, we set up
defenses against sharing our innermost feelings
with anyone.
