Progress for Wildlife

In June, The Humane Society of the United States investigators went undercover with Animal Planet Investigates: Captive Hunting Exposed to reveal the cruel and unsportsmanlike practices that characterize captive hunts -- when trophy seekers pay to shoot semi-tame animals trapped in enclosures on private ranches. This special aired during a massive push by the industry to expand captive hunting.
Thankfully, with the support of wildlife lovers like you, we were able to successfully defeat bad legislation in six states that would have allowed more captive hunting. One bill even specifically allowed the shooting of endangered animals, and others provided for captive-wildlife breeding ranches to supply captive hunts.
Every state victory for animal protection is another victory that must be rigorously defended. Although we successfully defeated these bills, more are sure to be introduced next year -- and we'll need your support.
The HSUS is a national leader fighting to crack down on captive hunts, fox and coyote penning, and illegal wildlife poaching. Stay up to date on everything we’re doing to battle captive hunts as well as other wildlife abuses, and “like" The HSUS's Wildlife Abuse Campaign Facebook page to learn what else you can do to help.
